The District Today

Farmers Irrigation District is located in Hood River, Oregon, in the beautiful, culturally rich Columbia River Gorge. It is a nonprofit government agency founded in 1874. Water is provided to over 5,800 acres of land, both residential and agricultural. The Hood River Valley produces large quantities of high value pears, apples, cherries, and wine grapes

Serving the Northern Hood River Valley since 1874.

Drought Update: Water supplies continue to be very low, especially in the upper district (Highline system). FID continues to ask all patrons to cut back water usage to maintain water supplies through the end of the irrigation season.

Patrons off of the Highline system (Kingsley, Binns Hill, York Hill, upper Riordan Hill, etc.) are likely to see fluctuating flows if/when water demand exceeds water supply. The FID crew is working hard to keep the system filled, but, given the severely low water supplies available to the upper district, asks everyone to please limit water use as much as possible, and please be patient as the crew works to keep the system operational.

Office Hours Update: FID is currently between Office Managers. We are attempting to keep the office staffed during normal office hours, but, given our small crew size, there will be times we are unable to have the office open as normal. We apologize for the inconvience. Please give the office a call at 541-387-5261 to confirm someone is available, and leave a message if we miss your call. A staff member will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!

Shutdown Notification: Irrigation season ends September 30th.

FID crews will be conducting annual maintenance, a penstock inspection, and other critical work from October 1st to October 14th. Orchard spray water will not be available to patrons in the lower or middle districts during that time.

Election Notification: Qualified division members wishing to run for the Farmers Irrigation District Division One and Division Four Board positions may pick up a nomination form at the office. Nomination forms must be signed by at least 10 qualified electors in the respective division and be received at the office by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8th, 2025. Learn more about the District Board of Directors here.
