The project eliminated a very leaky section of canal. The Pine Creek reach accounted for nearly 18 percent of the total 20 percent loss of water along the entire Farmers Canal. The leaks also caused increased sedimentation in Pine Creek, an otherwise clear tributary to the Hood River bearing species of resident trout.
