The Farmers Canal Restoration Project was officially completed in mid-August 2008 with the placement of woody debris near the old Farmers Diversion spill gate. The woody debris will help re-establish fish habitat in the project vicinity. Earlier in 2008, alder and willow were planted in the project vicinity to help stabilize the soils and rock surrounding the diversion. While most of the flume restoration project was completed by October 2007, the woody debris component of the project was done during the so-called "in-water work window" during the summer in order to reduce risk to fish in the Hood River.
